Schneider Electric, a global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, is strengthening its role in the development of critical infrastructure for artificial intelligence through its involvement in a landmark project: the construction of a state-of-the-art data center and AI supercomputer in Armenia, in the Kotayk province.

Schneider Electric Romania contribuie la dezvoltarea uneia dintre cele mai avansate infrastructuri AI din Caucaz

The Firebird AI project, developed in partnership with the Government of Armenia and technologically supported by NVIDIA—Schneider Electric’s global partner—marks a highly significant milestone for the development of a regional innovation hub in the Caucasus. With an estimated investment of hundreds of millions of dollars and a planned capacity of over 100 MW, the infrastructure will support the acceleration of AI adoption in industry, research, and academia. The Firebird AI project positions Armenia as the host of one of the world’s top five AI GPU clusters, as well as one of the most important technology-driven capital investments in the country’s history.

Schneider Electric is a key partner in this project, providing critical solutions for the data center’s energy and electrical infrastructure. In the first phase of the project, with an approximate capacity of 15 MW, the company delivered an integrated portfolio of solutions, including UPS systems, medium- and low-voltage equipment, as well as advanced power distribution solutions.

An essential role in the implementation is played by the Schneider Electric Romania team, which contributed directly to delivering the medium-voltage package, UPS systems, and the sale of key project components (low-voltage package and advanced Motivair cooling), in collaboration with local and regional partners.

Alongside the Schneider Electric Romania team, its partner ecosystem also played a role through Romanian integrators and electrical panel manufacturers certified by Schneider Electric, further strengthening Romania’s position as a regional hub of expertise in critical infrastructure.

“This project demonstrates not only the scale of the transformation driven by AI, but also the essential role of optimized energy infrastructure in supporting it. We are proud that the team in Romania is directly contributing to such a large-scale initiative, strengthening local expertise in a strategic field for the future,” said Lucian Enaru, Country General Manager of Schneider Electric Romania, Armenia, and the Republic of Moldova.

The data center will integrate thousands of next-generation NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and will be designed to support high-density AI workloads, which entail stringent requirements for energy efficiency, resilience, and advanced cooling.

In this context, Schneider Electric brings its global expertise in developing sustainable and efficient data centers, through solutions that combine electrical infrastructure, digitalization, and intelligent energy management. Its involvement in the Firebird AI project reflects Schneider Electric Romania’s ability to deliver complex projects at international standards and to actively contribute to the development of critical digital infrastructure in the region.

The project is currently in its first implementation phase, and the second phase—more than twice as large—was confirmed in February. Schneider Electric’s participation in this initial phase opens up important opportunities for expanding collaboration and strengthening Romania’s position in similar projects at a regional level.
