• Deadline for submitting applications for the BASF Innovation Hub contest is until September 30th, 2021.
• Among the applications already received there are solutions for various uses from biomaterials, ideas for usage of plastic waste and smart irrigation systems etc.
• The contest is organized in 11 countries in the Central and Southern Europe, including Romania.

Due to the high interest of innovators and start-ups, applications for the BASF Innovation Hub 2021 contest for solutions in the field of sustainable development will be extended by two weeks, until 30th September 2021 at midnight.

The regional contest BASF Innovation Hub 2021 is held in 11 countries within the Central and Southern European region, among which is Romania. The focus of the competition resides on identifying the solutions that directly or indirectly contribute to the pillars of Green Deal Agenda – clean energy, sustainable agriculture and circular economy.

“The interest we have seen in the entire region is high. So far, many applications from different innovators and start-ups have been submitted. These include various solutions for the use of biomaterials with specific purposes, ideas for usage of plastic waste and smart irrigation. It is obvious that the Green Deal Agenda is a rather inspiring topic for the youth, and they are actively thinking about valuable solutions for a sustainable planet. This is what has led us to extend the application deadline and we are using this opportunity to invite start-ups, which possibly haven’t submitted their application yet, to submit their ideas until 30th September 2021 at midnight”, highlights Andreas Lier, Managing Director at BASF Romania and Bulgaria.

In the local round of the competition, the panel of judges will choose the best idea for Romania, which will later take part in the regional BASF Innovation Hub 2021 finals, together with the winning solutions from the other participating countries. The winner of the local round will be awarded EUR 2,500 gross, whereas the best idea of the regional level will be awarded EUR 5,000 gross. Prizes can cumulate.

“The contest is open for innovators and start-up teams of up to five members. The only requirement is that the idea submitted contributes – directly or indirectly – to the development of solutions for clean, reliable, and affordable energy; solutions for sustainable agriculture and solutions that enable transition to circular economy. The money intended for the best projects can be used in any way that innovators and start-ups consider vital for the development of their idea but also for identifying key partners to finalize the product, its testing or financing the investment. We are there to support them”, explains Sebastian Metz, Managing Director AHK Romania, and reminds that the lack of financial means is one of the most common reasons for which some of the finest individual ideas do not materialize.
